THE build up to Christmas will officially begin this Saturday, 3rd December with the Westbury Christmas Fayre followed by the big lights switch on!
There will be a whole host of attractions taking place throughout the day and into the evening including live music, children’s activities, a reptile display and Santa on a bike! The fun kicks off at 10am and continues right through to 8.30pm.
There will also be free parking in Westbury car parks for the day.
Event co-ordinator Verity Bartlett said, “With only a couple of days to go, the town council is looking forward to this year’s Christmas in Westbury Street Fayre and Lights Switch On, this coming Saturday.
“There will be some new and exciting entertainment, as well as some old favourites throughout the day. Our new Town Crier will also be making his first appearance and giving announcements during the day to keep people informed.
“The Street Fayre will run across the town centre from 10am – 4pm and the build up to the Christmas Lights switch on will start from 5.45pm, with the big switch-on happening at 6.30pm. This year the lights will be officially switched on by five year -old Lucy Firth, the overall winner of the Mayor’s Christmas card competition. Once Santa has left us to look after his reindeer, the ever popular Cley Hill Stompers will round off the evening.
“We look forward to seeing as many Westbury residents as possible come and enjoy the day and ‘Celebrate Christmas in Westbury’.
There will be ferret racing, dancing, live music from Kirsty Clinch and Cley Hill Stompers, a balloon artist, face painting, craft stalls and plenty of food available and this year the Crafty Wolf Brewery will be paying a visit. There will also be walkabout acts including Jingle Bells the Reindeer and The Spiced Satsumas, as well as Grant Maidment, The Bath Magician.
The evening entertainment begins at 5pm with walkabout performers from Circus Uncertainty, with the planned schedule as follows:-
5.55pm: Town Crier welcome and Mayor’s address
6pm: Winners of Christmas card, Christmas poem and Christmas window display competitions announced.
6.10pm: Santa arrives.
6.30pm: Christmas Lights Switch On.
6.40pm: Cley Hill Stompers perform.
7.30pm: Cley Hill Stompers finish. Funfair continues in the High Street car park until 8.30pm.
