POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was seriously injured in a collision in Bratton at around 9.45am on Tuesday 27th November.
Police report, “The two-vehicle crash happened on the B3098 Westbury Road. A red Toyota Yaris had been travelling towards Bratton when it was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes Sprinter van, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
“The driver of the Toyota, an 89-year-old man from the Warminster area, sustained multiple injuries and was flown to Southampton Hospital by air ambulance.
“The driver of the van, a 32-year-old man from the Norfolk area, was not injured and did not require medical treatment.
“A dog which was travelling in the Toyota sadly died at the scene.
“Officers from the Tri-Force Roads Policing Unit and Collision Investigation Unit closed the road for a number of hours to allow investigations to take place. It reopened shortly after 3pm.”
Inspector Paul Saunders, from Tri-Force Roads Policing said, “Were you in the area at the time of the collision? If you have any information which could assist with our investigation then please call police.
“Also, we would like to use this opportunity to remind people of the importance of securing their pets safely in their vehicles.
“We know how much dogs mean to their owners, so please make sure you are doing everything you can to keep them, and other road-users, safe. You should always tether your dog with a specially-designed seatbelt, or place them in a cage, which is then tethered with some sort of restraint.”
