American-style wrestling is returning to Westbury on Saturday 16th November as Ultimate Championship Wrestling (UCW) presents its latest event, ‘Redemption’.
UCW was founded in 2001 by Lady Sue, her husband Reg, and their son Gareth Humphreys, known in the wrestling world as ‘The Gangster’. The wrestling community was left heartbroken when Gareth died in February 2023. In his memory, the family decided to organise a memorial show to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice, where Gareth had received care.
At the memorial event, Gareth’s son, Bradley Humphreys from Westbury – also known as Bradley James – made his wrestling debut at the age of 14. He went on to win the Royal Rumble match during the event.
Following this, Bradley’s mother, Kerry, and his cousin Clare revived UCW. One year after Gareth’s passing, the promotion resumed hosting events.
UCW continues to be a family-friendly event, holding regular shows at Leighton Sports Centre in Westbury. The next event, ‘Redemption’, will feature the UCW Legacy Championship, currently held by Tristan Hayes, who has been with the promotion since 2001. The show will include women’s matches, tag team bouts, and a number one contender’s battle royal.
UCW is also offering open training sessions for individuals aged 14 and over. These sessions are designed to teach wrestling skills and promote fitness. Information about UCW events and training can be found on its social media pages and website at www.ucwlegacy.com.
‘Redemption’ will take place on 16th November at Leighton Sports Centre. Doors open at 5.30pm.
“Come join us to cheer for the good guys and boo the bad guys,” say organisers.
