WESTBURY and District u3a members enjoyed a very interesting and fun talk by Sally Smith about her book, Magnificent Women and Flying Machines.
The book is about the first 100 years of women in the sky, including Hilda Hewlett who was the first British woman to hold a full pilot’s licence in 1911, solo pilot Edith Cook flying in 1910, Letitia Sage the first woman balloonist and aeronaut in 1785, and Winifred Brown. It is worth looking up these unsung heroines and their amazing achievements!
Westbury u3a meets on the second Tuesday of the month in Westbury United Reform Church Hall, Warminster Road, Westbury BA13 3PJ.
Park at rear, off The Butts, via Hospital Road. £3 payable on entry.
