Southern League Premier South
Saturday 9th November. Yate Town 1-0 Westbury Utd
Tuesday 12th November. Bristol Manor Farm 0-0 Westbury Utd
Westbury United came away with just one point from two difficult away games but it could have been so much better.
First up, they went down 1-0 to top of the table Yate Town on Saturday 9th November but were unlucky not to get a point despite playing 40+ minutes with ten men after a harsh straight red card for Aaron Witchell.
It took an 88th minute goal for Yate to finally break down the stubborn United defence and earn the table-toppers their sixth straight home win of the season and maintain their 100% home record.
With both defences on top, the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw but with just two minutes to go, James Byrne fired home from close range to send the White Horse Men home empty-handed.
The game saw the “Last Post” played before kick-off to commemorate Armistice Day.
It was a short turn-around as the White Horse Men travelled to Bristol Manor Farm on Tuesday 12th November for another difficult away encounter against a side unbeaten at home this season.
Veteran defender Steve Hulbert rolled back the years to keep the division’s top goalscorer, Louis Britton, quiet in a game that saw few chances. But United could have earned three points when Dan Restorick headed a corner onto the crossbar and a last-ditch block denied Will Taylor mid-way through the second half.
