WESTBURY and Warminster Youth Club have thanked members of the public following a successful day of collecting for donations for their club in the local supermarket.
Members stood in the foyer of Morrisons in town from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 26th March and managed to collect over £200, to help support the club and its activities.
Beth Mullins, the leader of Westbury and Warminster Youth Club said, “The team, made up of staff and members, gave their time all day and stood in the foyer of Morrisons collecting donations. We raised a huge £226.56 that will go back into the club and be spent on the young people.
“As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on grants and fundraising. We want to say a massive thank you to the team; Fred, Ben and Karen, the members Harry, Oscar and Amelia for giving their time, and Morrisons for allowing us to be able to come into store. But the biggest thank you of all is the kind people of Westbury, their kind donations will make a huge difference to our members.”
Beth also spoke about some of the financial hardships the club has faced in the past two years. “During Covid and lockdowns, Westbury Youth Club lost a lot of income as we were unable to run sessions or fundraise”, Beth added. “Lisa and Mel from Morrisons in town have always supported us and it was arranged for us to go in store and fundraise, but then Covid hit and we weren’t able to.
“Throughout the last two years, the club has kept in touch with the community champions at Morrisons and as soon as restrictions were lifted and in-store fundraising was allowed again, it was arranged for us to rearrange the fundraising that had been cancelled by Covid.”
Westbury Youth Club is held from 4.45pm to 6.15pm every Wednesday during termtime and has a range of weekly activities for 11– 19-year-olds (up to 25 with learning disabilities) to enjoy. It costs just £1 to attend and the club can be contacted on Wiltshire Together https://wiltshiretogether.org.uk/profile/westbury_808 or via Facebook.
