WESTBURY’S young people will once again have somewhere to meet as the youth club is relaunching on Thursday 5th September.
Following the news of the closure of Westbury’s Youth Club at Leigh Park Community Centre, due to lack of volunteers, youth club leader Beth Mullins approached Warminster’s youth club, who also were forced to close recently, to relaunch as one club.
The club will now be run from Funways in Warminster on Thursdays from 6pm-7.30pm for children aged 11-14 and young leaders aged 14-19.
A minibus service will be available from Thursday 12th September to take children from Westbury to the new club. The pick up point is at Tesco Express in Leigh Park and a return trip will be £1 per child.
Young leaders will work alongside the team of volunteers and Youth Action Wiltshire where they will obtain certificates for food hygiene, first aid, younger leaders awards and safeguarding.
Beth Mullins said, “I have a team of seven volunteers who are dedicated and excited about the launch of the club. I am pleased to say off the back of the piece the White Horse News printed previously about our relaunch, that we had a volunteer come forward who has a minibus licence.
“This means that we will be able to run a minibus collection and drop off service from Tesco Express in Leigh Park during our second week on Thursday 12th September. There will be a £1 charge for the mini-bus return trip.
“I am also pleased to say that we have spoken to community engagement manager for Westbury, Graeme Morrison, and although our members are younger than the Westbury Area Board usually supports, we have gained his support to submit a grant application.
“All sessions up until the October half term have been planned and we will be ending with a Halloween party.
“We are always looking for new volunteers. If anyone is interested in joining the team, they can email wwyouthclub@hotmail.com. We are now on Facebook, follow us by searching @westburyandwarminsteryouthclub.”
