THE local youth work team have joined forces with teenagers and children in the area to organise a litter pick of Penleigh Park.
The team at 4Youth say they were responding to negative feedback on Facebook about the state of the skate park area which is often covered in litter.
Gemma Holt, the Westbury centre coordinator for 4Youth said, “The youth work team at 4Youth South West would like to say a huge thank you to the 20 plus young people who have helped us to litter pick at Penleigh Park during our detached youth work sessions over the summer holidays.
“Teenagers in the area are the first to take the blame for the mess so we thought it was important to try and show the local community that there are many young people who are considerate and do care about the area that they live in.”
The clean-up team was also joined by Wiltshire and Westbury town councillors Gordon and Carole King who helped the team and other young people to litter pick one evening along Queen’s Road.
Gemma added, “We shared our first litter pick, where we collected six large bags of litter, on the Spotted Westbury Facebook page and received over 400 likes! We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback, which we shared with the young people we work with as many of them are not on Facebook.
“During the past few weeks, we have invited the young people we meet to help pick litter and we have often had young people asking us if we have the litter pickers so they can help. They have been keen to do their bit to help keep the area litter free. We have been so impressed with the young people who we work with and how tidy the skate park looks.”
