RESIDENTS of Heywood and Hawkeridge villages came together to clear the overgrown playing field known as the Glebe Land, with help from local businesses in the hopes to transform it into a play area.
The villagers carried out the work to clear the overgrown playing field that lies on Dursley road, Heywood/Norleaze on Saturday 14th July.
They received support from local businesses AJ Stephenson, More Bushes Ltd and Hire Standards, all local Westbury firms, who donated their time and services to help cut the grass down so that the field can be used for the children of the villages throughout he summer holidays.
Further fundraising will take place to change the playing field with its single goal post, to a play area. There will be a coffee morning at Heywood and Hawkeridge Village Hall on Saturday 21st July and Saturday 18th August, both from 10am-12noon, with a 50p entry.
There will also be a children’s fun session at the hall on Friday 10th August and Friday 24th August from 10am-12noon all in aid of the play park with a £1 entry.
Lynn Butcher said, “We appreciate any help and support for fundraising ideas, maintenance and play equipment, as this is a first for the villages. If you have any ideas and want to support the project, email hpandham@gmail.com or join the Heywood and Hawkeridge Community Facebook page, or the HP & Ham Facebook group.
