TWO Westbury businesses – Club 24 Fitness and Health and Wiltshire – have raised over £1,200 for Wiltshire Mind from a 24-hour Spinathon
Staff and gym members took turns to ride bikes constantly over a 24-hour period and raised £1,220 for the local mental health charity that supports people in the county who experience mental health problems or emotional distress.
A representative from Health and Wiltshire Ltd said, “We wanted to give back after such a troubling two years, and that’s when we came up with the idea to raise money by spinning for 24 hours.
“We started at 6am on Friday and we hit it off with a bang; the day was then carried on by gym members joining and of course a member of H&W being on a bike at all times, making sure we covered the 24 hours.
“Emma Hicks, Tom Marriott, and Holly Creswell Jeal were the main three employees who really went above and beyond for this challenge. Emma managed a whopping 16 hours, Tom eight hours and Holly covered six hours!
“Heath and Wiltshire could not have done it without the outstanding support from Club 24 Fitness; they took on the challenge and got involved by promoting throughout the gym and making sure they got members partaking in the challenge with us. Martin Johnson and Jason Wilcox took the seven-hour evening shift and kept everyone’s morale up with their amazing energy.”
Club 24 Fitness said, “Despite the weather, we were absolutely blown away (quite literally) at the outstanding effort from everyone involved. A huge thank you and round of applause to those who travelled afar to participate, as well as our amazing members who certainly put in a great shift!
“We’d also like to give a special thanks and well done to both our directors Martin Johnson and Jason Willcox and instructor Sarah Greenland who completed 7 hours on the bike and to our instructor Emma Hicks who did a whopping 16 hours. So far, we’ve managed to raise £1,220 on our just giving page, as well as lots of cash.”
Laura Oatley, Community Fundraiser for Wiltshire Mind said, “We are in awe of your achievements, and the amount raised is so very gratefully received. This money goes directly towards supporting children, young people, and adults with their mental health in Wiltshire.
“One in four of us are experiencing a mental health problem. The demand for mental health support in our community has risen, and we are now seeing unprecedented levels of demand from all age groups for our counselling and local support groups. To continue to provide mental health support – accessible to anyone in Wiltshire – we need to raise £465 a day, so your donation is very gratefully received.”
