Westbury Townswomen’s Guild has ‘come of age’ recently celebrating their 50th anniversary.
“Our group was formed in November 1968 with the first meeting in the Laverton hall,” said Wendy Bartlett. “From there we went from strength to strength, with many friendships being formed and today our aim is to continue to provide a platform for friendship, social activities, interesting speakers, theatre trips, walking and pub lunches. This coming year we are currently planning special activities including community projects.
“We celebrated our anniversary in November with a two-course evening dinner, followed by entertainment provided by The Woodlanders group. The December meeting saw us in festive spirit as we enjoyed a Christmas party which included humorous games, secret santa , carols, and buffet supper. On January 24th, we are meeting at 11am at Redland Lane for a walk followed by a pub lunch. (A chance to work off those Christmas calories!)
“We were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to decorate the window of the Heritage Centre with a festive display for the month of December and hopefully the publicity will encourage new ladies to join us. If there are any ladies in Westbury and surrounding villages who may be interested in our group, please give Marg a ring on 01373 826178 or me, Wendy, on 01225 764515 or just come along to our meeting at Grassacres Hall, the 4th Thursday of each month at 7.30pm, where you will be made very welcome.”
