Relief and happy faces for Matravers pupils

MATRAVERS School Sixth Form is celebrating success after the majority of pupils achieved top grades in their A-level and BTEC courses.

Staff at the school say they are delighted with the ‘superb results’ and have praised the students for their hard work.

Students at Matravers in all A-level subjects are performing at or above national averages, with BTEC courses significantly above national figures for the third year running.  The Extended Project examinations also continue to be a significant strength with over 90% of students gaining an A*-C.

School headteacher Dr Simon Riding commented, “We are delighted with the performance of a wonderful group of young people.  Students, staff and parents have worked extremely hard to deliver a great set of results.  Our successful young people can now progress on to Higher Education and Apprenticeships.”

Top performing students included Lydia Toyne who achieved an impressive A* in psychology and A grades in art and English literature and is going on to continue her studies in art in Brighton, and Jess Scragg who is going on to study ecology at University of East Anglia having gained AAC.

Other successful A-level students included Kieran King who achieved ABC and a B grade in the Extended Project qualification and is going to Plymouth to study geography; Reece London achieved ABC; Huw Buckley BBB with A in EPQ and Georgia Ashman with BBB.

“The school is very proud to offer a diverse range of courses for its Post-16 students, including a number of BTEC courses which once again have been very successful, enabling many students to move on to bigger and better things,” added Dr Riding.

“In 2015, Ofsted described the Post-16 curriculum at Matravers School as ‘Outstanding’ as it offers the breadth of subjects needed to meet the needs of a wide range of students, as has been demonstrated by these results.”

A significant number of students at Matravers follow a mixture of both BTEC and A-level courses with success. Top performing students on the mixed pathway included Bertie Gmaj who achieved Distinction* in music and A-levels in English literature (A) and religious studies (B).

Other highly successful students on following a mixture of BTEC and A-level courses included Paris Henderson Distinction* with A-level grades BC and a B in EPQ and is now heading to City of Birmingham to study criminology. Tara Stone and Suzie Jones both achieved Distinction* with A-level grades BC.

Dr. Riding said, “Matravers School Sixth Form will be the largest it has ever been in September, with recruitment continuing to increase each year.  There are a few places still available and any student who is interested in joining this growing success story should contact the school as soon as possible.”
