We were invited to join our fellow MU members at All Saints Church in Westbury earlier this month to hear Sarah-Jane Bungay, a reporter and newsreader from BBC Points West, talk about her experiences both in radio and television.
Very early mornings and outside broadcasts from unusual and not always glamorous surroundings, mean that life at the BBC is not always as picturesque as it looks.
Sarah-Jane showed us clips from the archives which had been recorded on huge reels of film when the cameraman had to carry very heavy equipment before the film was returned to the studio for editing, cutting and preparing for broadcasting.
Gradually, over the years technology has enabled smaller and smaller equipment to produce the digitally minute recordings used today.
It was very interesting to see just how much work goes into preparing the smooth running operation we enjoy and take for granted now.
