A replica of the lower jaw of the prehistoric sea-living Pliosaur, which lived in the Westbury area 150 million years ago, is currently on display at a free exhibition at Westbury Museum.
The jaw replica is on loan from Bristol Museum for two weeks and there is plenty of information and images to give a real flavour of what life was like for beasts like this when it swam in the Jurassic seas that covered Bristol. The eight-metre long Pliosaur was found in a Westbury clay pit in 1994 and is the world’s only example of this particular species of Pliosaur, named Pliosaurus.
The exhibition is free to all and will end on Saturday 13th August. Westbury Museum, above the library, is open Monday 2-6pm, Tuesday and Friday 9.30am-5pm and Saturday 9.30am-1pm.
