THE hugely popular White Horse Soapbox Derby is back for 2023 and it will pit teams from across the country against each other as they hurtle down the steep hill under the White Horse in custom-built soap box carts.
The free event, which is taking place on Saturday 20th May from 11am to 7pm opposite the White Horse Equestrian Centre, will see teams again race down the iconic hill, complete with live music from Westbury Festival, a kids’ area, live DJs, hot food, and a special engineering fair. New to the Soapbox Derby this year is a special junior event that will see under 16s race electric remote-controlled cars in a special purpose-built course.
“So, who will rise from the pit stop of destiny this year?” ask the organisers. “Who will be taking their place at the starting line of fate, racing against time on our longest ever course, and racing for the ultimate prize at Wiltshire’s ultimate Soapbox Derby!
“Who will be the fastest? Who will be the most furious? Who will win the best historical theme? Who will even complete the course?? Who will be crowned a 2023 White Horse Soapbox Derby champion? The course obstacles will again be named after main sponsors – Arke ltd, Torn, Landmarc, White Horse Equestrian Centre and Honeystone Web Services. All taking place in the rolling hills of Westbury’s countryside.”
Transport links, access, and parking to be announced on the Facebook page and at whitehorsesoapboxderby.co.uk
Junior event
This year will also see the first Junior Event, where children below the age of 16 can enter their own electric remote-control car (petrol cars are not permitted). A purpose-built course will be ready and a round robin knockout tournament will play out through the day.
