Westbury Infant School’s ‘Enchanted Forest’ library was officially opened by Eileen Browne, author of Handa’s Surprise and Handa’s Hen, on Wednesday 17th October.
Deputy headteacher, Nicky Newbury said, “Eileen spent the afternoon in school entertaining all classes in lively workshops with all the children. After the opening, Eileen then went on to do a signing session of her books used in the workshops. The children had a very enjoyable afternoon and were excited that Eileen has donated some of her books to the new library.
“The ‘Enchanted Forest’ library has been a real labour of love for all those involved and was funded by the school and from very generous donations from the Lions and Hills Waste.
“Tracy Rylands, the school’s artist in residence, has left her very own special legacy to the school by designing and painting wonderful artwork on the walls, inspired by traditional and classic stories that have forests at the heart of them.
“At the opening event, our student council welcomed guests from these organisations and showed off the commissioned giant storyteller chair, LED sky tiles, the indoor tree house and the gingerbread cottage in the outside space, providing a variety of magical spaces for the children to enjoy and to encourage a life-long love of reading.”
