Issue 437 – Bobby will dazzle Blue Circle bar

ANOTHER DARTS hero is to play at Westbury’s Blue Circle Bar.

Bobby George, the ‘King of Bling’ will be taking to the stage on Thursday 25th June.
The two-time world champion is one of the most colourful, charismatic and entertaining players in the history of darts. Blue Circle Bar owner Steve Brewer said that Bobby was certain to provide an entertaining evening for darts fans.

“We’re really excited about having him along, he’s a true performer!” said Steve.
Over the years, Bobby has represented England on 26 occasions and remains in the list of all-time top 10 winning players for England. The only trophy to have eluded him is the World Final, due to the fact he played the final match with a broken back.
In 1999 Bobby became a BBC television presenter at the Embassy World of Darts Championship.
Such was his success that he has been a much respected studio pundit at every Embassy championship since then. Today, he co-presents each World Championship with Ray Stubbs and is known as the BBC’s ‘face of darts’.
Bobby George’s appearance in Westbury follows in the footsteps of his contemporary Eric Bristow. The 1980 Embassy world championship match between the pair is still regarded as one of the finest in the history of darts and saw Bobby introduce his signature sequinned shirt and candelabra.
Blue Circle Bar owner Steve Brewer said, “Eric was an absolute gentleman. He came at 6.00pm and he was still here at 1.00am. We all had a fantastic night and nobody managed to beat him. It was just a really great night.
Steve said he had been impressed that the five times world champion made the effort to speak to everyone in the venue.
He said, “He’d play four games and go out for a fag and every time he went out there he was, sat with someone else. On stage he was absolutely hilarious – he was winding the players up and having a laugh with them.
Steve said that Eric had played well against the good players and gave the bad players a chance.
“I thought it was fantastic of him,” said Steve. “It was just a cracking night and we are looking forward to more of the same with Bobby.”
