Plans submitted for 365 homes off Mane Way

A planning application for up to 365 homes on land off Mane Way has been submitted to Wiltshire Council, prompting fresh concerns from local residents. 

The application, by Persimmon Homes Wessex, comes after town councillors and residents voiced strong objections to the proposed development during a public meeting in February. The site, on the western edge of the town, is allocated for housing in Wiltshire Council’s draft Local Plan. 

Persimmon says the homes will be accessed via two new junctions off Mane Way, with the site including 13.12 hectares of public open space, new footpaths, play areas, tree planting and drainage features.  

However, objections have already been posted on the council’s planning portal.  

One resident wrote, “Westbury has had so many new estates built over the last 10 years. We do not have the infrastructure to support more houses and people. We have one health practice, a small shopping centre, one secondary school, a couple of junior schools and roads that are badly congested on a daily basis. It will be a very sad day for Westbury if this proposed build is approved.” 

Another added, “Assuming more than one vehicle per household; some 500–700 additional vehicles will put immense pressure on an already creaking road infrastructure.” 

These concerns echo those raised at a public meeting in February, where Westbury Town Council and residents said the development risked flooding, traffic congestion and unaffordable housing.
