MAYOR of Westbury, cllr Sue Ezra celebrated a busy year for Westbury at the mayor’s reception on Friday.
The event, which is hosted by the mayor towards the end of their term, was a chance for cllr Ezra to reflect on the year. The Civic Awards were also presented on the night.
Cllr Ezra, who is serving the town as mayor for the second time, said, “What a busy year it’s been!
“Westbury has seen a new sixth form unit at Matravers School, its first food bank, the new White Horse Health Centre, and Westbury Court Care Home to name just a few.
“Our twinners had a successful visit to Chateau Du Loir, the Olympic Flame visited Westbury Youth Sailing Lake, and we planted a tree to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee.
“And then there was the Christmas in Westbury event. After 11 months of planning, we watched the weather forecasts in the days and hours running up to the event but Mother Nature got the better of us and the lights switch-on was delayed for a week, but it was a great success when it eventually happened!
“Who can forget the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend and this time, Mother Nature was kind to us all.”
Cllr Ezra also recognised the cleaning of the White Horse, and the arrival of the Reverends David Coppard and Ian McManus to the town in her speech.
