Westbury Shed’s new wheelchair-friendly allotment shed is up and running!
“After many weeks of hard voluntary work, the goodwill of others and valued financial assistance from the Westbury area board, we are delighted to announce that our new wheelchair friendly allotment shed is officially commissioned and ready for action,” said Dan Gmaj.
“Having this essential facility means that we can now offer regular allotment sessions to our members which will be on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. And that could be you – or someone that you think would enjoy our community group! We would love to hear from you or them!
“Horticultural knowledge and practical skills are welcomed but by no means essential. Sessions at the allotment will be a time to develop planting plans and solve problems, to exchange knowledge and stories over a cuppa (thermos required!); a time to dig, plant, an observe the wonder of nature or help develop and install new infrastructure.
“But most of all, a time to find tranquility and recharge your batteries (off grid!) There is no better place to discuss the unexpected rain than from the warmth and shelter of a ‘big comfy Shed’.
“Work is already underway on our raised bed ‘Keyhole Garden’ and we are delighted to be helping Westbury Junior School with their Spiritual Garden Project too!
“We are really looking forward to working with inspirational head teacher Richard Hatt on this WiltshireWildlife.org lead project (And I hear they do a really good lunch too!) so all is good!
“A permanent workshop is still our main aim and progress, though slow, is finally beginning to show some green shoot. Let us never forget that we are doing all this because there are many of you who really deserve it so come and join in the fun!”
