Cinema Corsley is planning a special evening focusing on the history of the Corsley and Chapmanslade area, and especially the village of Corsley.
Organisers say, “We will be showing a short film called “The Death of a Sociologist,” which was inspired by the tragic story of Maud Davis and her research up to1909 into Corsley village families and her resulting social history book “Life in an English Village.”
“The producer and director of this short film will give a talk about the making of the film and there will be a Q&A session afterwards. This will be followed by Victoria Hutchings and Dennis Barnard discussing the book “Crocodiles and Chicken Chasers,” which they wrote about the villages of Corsley and Chapmanslade.
“As well as other local short films from the Wiltshire/Somerset area, there will also be an exhibition of local photographs and documents for everyone to view on the evening in the lower room.
“Part of this exhibition will also be available to view from 11am – 3pm on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th December, in the Reading Room. It is free entry on the Friday and Saturday for the exhibition, with tea and coffee for sale.
“Tickets for Thursday evening can only be bought from Acres Supply in Corsley. Doors open 7pm for a 7.30pm start at Corsley Reading Room.”
