LOCAL groups were recognised for making a difference to people’s health and wellbeing at a recent awards ceremony.
The Wiltshire Health Improvement Partnership Awards were held on Wednesday 13th March at Trowbridge Civic Centre, with world champion and Olympic rower Debbie Flood and former Olympic skier Eddie ‘the eagle’ Edwards as guest speakers.
Among those being recognised was Run England, who has a group that meets in Westbury, awarded for improving physical activity, while HMP Erlestoke’s Stop Smoking service also received an award on the evening.
Get Wiltshire Walking, which recently started a group in Westbury, received the Liquid Media public award for an outstanding contribution to improved health and wellbeing.
The ‘No Worries’ drop-in clinic at the White Horse Health Centre in Westbury had also been nominated for their work in improving sexual health and reducing teenage pregnancies.
Keith Humphries, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for public health and public protection said, “These awards recognise the brilliant work being undertaken in Wiltshire to improve the health and wellbeing of all those that live and work in the county. Congratulations to all the winners, they can rightly feel proud to have won. I would also like to congratulate all those who were shortlisted and nominated.”
