WESTBURY Festival has announced that ‘60’s pop group, The Bachelors, will perform at this year’s festival.
Now referred to as, Bachelors – Con & Dec, during the 1960s the group had many successful songs in music charts in the UK, USA and all over the world.
Some of the most successful were Charmaine, Diane, I Believe, Ramona, I Wouldn’t Trade You for the World, Marie and In the Chapel in the Moonlight.
In 1965 they had the ‘most played juke box track with The Stars Will Remember from a film they made with then-current DJ Sam Costa. Their last big hit in the UK was a cover of the Paul Simon song The Sound of Silence which reached No.3 in April 1966.
The boys themselves will tell you that they “beat the Beatles.” In 1964, The Bachelors had more records in the UK top ten than The Beatles with an amazing 77 weeks in the UK charts, compared to The Beatles’ 50 weeks. And of course, they reached number one, with Diane.
The group are still performing and recording albums and are currently on their 50th anniversary tour.
Festival chair, Ian Cunningham said, “We are very excited to be welcoming such famous performers to Westbury for the final Friday of the Westbury Festival.”
Tickets will be on sale shortly, probably £14, but with a discount to £10 if you were able to attend one of their original UK concerts (i.e. are an OAP!).
The Westbury Festival website is also now live: Westburyfestival.org.uk. Look out for further announcements and details about tickets.
