THE day may have been a bit of a wash out, but the Dilton Marsh Flower and Handicraft Show certainly wasn’t!
The doors opened to the public at 2pm and despite the rain, lots of exhibitors came to the event to see how they performed and were joined by visitors viewing the displays. There were lots of smiles and chatting amongst villagers with refreshments served by the Dilton Amateur Gardening Club.
Organisers say, “Dilton’s flower, fruit and veg growers put on a good display despite the tricky weather conditions and cookery was popular with some delicious baked and jarred exhibits. Everyone enjoyed the photos submitted and the obvious talent on display in the handicraft classes. Many children got very creative with great entries that had everyone smiling. Visitors were wowed by the three group entries this year, so much thought, skill and time went into those and visually they were something else.
“The event drew to a close with a few heartfelt words from chairlady Angie Gibbs, prize giving for the children’s classes and awarding of the main cups in each section. Congratulations to everyone who went home with a certificate/prize and to all of the cup winners! All entrants had a chance to win two great prizes, a family pass to Fairfield Animal Centre or dinner at The Weavers pub. Will Johnson also skilfully and cheerfully auctioned off items for sale, raising funds to go towards the costs of next year’s show.
“We would like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who have supported the show, including main sponsors Valletta Surfacing Ltd, Dilton Marsh Parish Council and Fairfield College. Many others also gave their support and full details are available on the show Facebook page. If you don’t already, please do join us on Facebook, just search for Dilton Marsh Flower & Handicraft Show. See you next year!”
Organisers say they are looking forward to next year’s show; if you have any feedback, comments or compliments please do let the committee know in person or via 07876 341865.
