RUNNERS and spectators lined the roads of Bratton, earlier this month for the annual Bratton Hilly Run, which saw competitors take on the challenging 11k route around the village and over the White Horse.
96 athletes set off from the Bratton Jubilee Hall on Saturday 9th May in a race arranged to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. This was the 19th year the race has been run.
Avon Valley Runners had a successful haul, with their runners taking all three podium places. Pete Slade was the first to cross the line, with a speedy time of 44:31. Pete came second in 2014’s run, completing the course in 47:59.
He was followed by David Brigstoke (46:53) and Adam Robbins (47:36). The first woman to cross the line was Misty Summers in 56:59.
Volunteer Val Whitcombe said, “We’re very pleased with this year’s event and with the turnout. We lost a large portion of the runners who used to visit from Leicester but don’t come any more, so to get nearly 100 runners without them is fantastic.
“We introduced online entries this year, which has proved popular, and around 50 people came to sign up on the day.
“There was a great atmosphere at the run; it almost felt like a carnival! The race was brilliantly organised again too – the races are much the same because people like the event the way it is.”
Hilary Fairfield, regional delivery manager for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (Mnda) said, “We’re incredibly grateful to everybody who has helped organise this event and raise funds for our charity.
“The charity relies on donations and fundraising, and we’re always keen to hear from people looking to get involved and contribute.
“The money goes towards improving care and services for those who suffer from Motor Neurone Disease, and to research into the condition.”
