The Active Retirement Club (ARC) has held some interesting and varied meetings over the past few weeks.
A talk on the ups and downs of amateur operatics nearly brought the house down, with tales of a donkey strolling across the stage during a tender love scene, and a fire alarm going off in the middle of the famous duet from The Merry Widow. It is perhaps best to draw a veil over the occasion when a civic dignitary tripped and landed on top of the cellist in the orchestra pit! On a more serious note, there was a fascinating talk on bees and their importance in keeping our wildlife pollinated, as well as providing us with delicious and health-enhancing honey.
Summer has also seen ARC members venture out of doors. In addition to a visit to the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum near Calne, they have visited the Courts Garden in Holt. Both outings included pleasant lunches.
The fortnightly programme is now arranged until February 2020 and can be found at http://www.arcwestbury. club. All those who are retired or semi-retired are welcome, and the first two visits are free, so you can sound out the club. Alternatively, more information is available from chairman Bruce on 07968 662593.
