A CHARITY football match held at Westbury United’s ground, Meadow Lane, in memory of Liam Gilbert who died in August 2020 has raised funds for Wiltshire Mind – a charity that supports those dealing with mental health problems.
463 people came down to Meadow Lane last Saturday to watch the poignant memorial match with tickets costing £5 each, and a further £1,468 was donated via JustGiving.
Laura Oatley community fundraiser for Wiltshire Mind said, “The full amount hasn’t been added up as of yet, but with the combination of raffle tickets, the record ticket sales with £5 entry, donations on the night, as well as JustGiving donations, we are expecting something similar to the £8,000 that we raised at the charity match last year.
“We are so overwhelmed and thankful to Kurt for his efforts; he has worked so hard to make the game a possibility and the money raised this year and last year will go so far for the charity. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a possibility!”
The organiser, Kurt James, took to social media to thank those that attended. “So much hard work goes into events such as this, there’s a lot of time, effort & stress that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the day runs smoothly.
“But looking around and seeing people I haven’t seen for a little while enjoying themselves, that’s what it is all about for me. It’s brilliant to raise money for a great cause; and putting smiles on people’s faces & making memories is priceless.”
Kurt added, “463 people coming together for this event is just incredible, I am so thankful to each & every single one of you for turning out & showing your amazing support. Thank you, guys, it means everything to me. It really does make it all worthwhile.”
