Westbury lights up for Christmas on Saturday 1st December, as a day of festive fun comes to the town centre.
The town council has organising the annual Christmas event, which will culminate in the official switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
Organisers say, “The day begins at 11.00am with the High Street being taken over by a funfair which will run late into the evening.
“At 1.40pm, and back by popular demand, the magical Snow Lion will be making an appearance at the funfair.
“At 3.00pm a beautiful winter market opens on Maristow Street, Edward Street, Market Place and, new for this year, an indoor section in All Saints Church hall. There will be a fantastic variety of stalls so come along for a spot of Christmas shopping – and stalls are open until 9.00pm.
“Our Snow Lion and Christmas elves will be parading through the market to announce its opening, and local dance group Infinity Dance will be performing at 3.20pm in the Market Place to get the party going.
“Santa’s grotto also opens its doors at 3.00pm in the Market Place where Father Christmas will be meeting local children until the grotto closes at 5.00pm. The Snow Lion will be making a final appearance at 4.10pm.
“From 5.00pm, the stage in the Market Place will come alive with a spectacular evening concert and Christmas lights switch-on, with Santa appearing on stage and a special Westbury video.
“Music, including all the Christmas classics, will be provided by the always-popular Will Blake Band, local favourites The Frome Street Bandits and Westbury’s very own Mollie Green. They’ll also be a 40-piece gospel choir keeping everyone entertained. It’s a night not to be missed!
“The evening draws to a close at 9.00pm.
