WESTBURY United took the short trip to Bristol last weekend to take on high-flying title challengers Cribbs in the latest instalment of the Southern League campaign.
The two previous matches between the two clubs were tight affairs, with the games ending goalless, and this game threatened to offer much of the same as there was little to separate the sides in the first 15 minutes, with tackles flying in from both sides.
Westbury was bombarded with balls into the box but dealt with them well and at halftime, the deadlock was still not broken thanks to the safe hands of Jonny Hill in goal for United. The second half proved much of the same as both teams tried to break the deadlock.
It took a defensive lapse by the White Horse Men for Cripps player Jake Brown to slot away the winner in the 78th minute. It looked like there could be late drama as the match went into nine minutes of added time but United couldn’t find a way to rescue a point.
This result means Westbury United now sit in 16th place, having played two more games than 17th placed Bashley.
