Fairfield Farm College students and staff are celebrating after completing their Mount Snowdon challenge fundraiser.
The college is fundraising to build a new indoor horse arena for the students and the community to use and all funds raised will go towards this project.
The college said, “12 students and 6 staff took on the sponsored challenge to climb the 1085m to the summit of Mount Snowdon.
“After weeks of preparing, the challenge started on Wednesday 9th May with a 6 and a half hour journey to the bunkhouse accommodation near Mount Snowdon and for some students this was a first trip away from home. As dawn broke the next day, the climbers left the bunkhouse at 6.45am to drive to the foot of Mount Snowdon.
“Taking the Llanberis Path to the summit of Mount Snowdon the climb began at 7.30am. At 7.55am the climber reached the official start point and the group began to tackle the steep rocky and slippery terrain.
“The climb was relentless, reaching the halfway house at around 9.15am, it was a welcome break and a stop for snacks. All 12 students reached this point and were keen to continue the climb.
“As the route became steep and very loose under foot, two students decided it was too much and returned to the bottom with support from staff, this in itself was some five hours of climbing. An amazing effort. The remaining 10 students and staff pushed on towards the summit.
“The conditions were clear but cold as the first group of climbers reached the summit at 10.55am. They had made it, what an achievement! The climbers were ecstatic to have reached the top and the college is so proud of its fantastic young people.
“The college is buzzing with the excitement from this challenge, raising in excess of £1,500 to date, with sponsorship still coming in. Planning for the next challenge has already started, so watch this space for further details.
