WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust is looking for volunteers to help on its river clean-up project, A Better Biss Approach (ABBA).
Following the success of volunteer help with their last clean-up project, the Trust is again asking for your help in restoring and protecting the Bitham Brook on the River Biss.
Connor Goddard, Water Team Projects Manager of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust said, “We are always looking for new volunteers, either for practical restoration days or for a new volunteer group we have set up, the Water Guardians. The Water Guardians are volunteers who take on a regular stretch of river which they monitor for pollution incidents and can also record wildlife sightings and litter pick if they want to.
“With so many waterways around Westbury and Trowbridge, we are definitely looking for people to become guardians. Anyone looking to get involved with the practical restoration days can email water@wiltshirewildlife.org. Anyone interested in becoming a water guardian can email guardians@wiltshirewildlife.org.
“ABBA is a five-year project of practical action, innovative community and business engagement, with high-level strategic planning across the River Biss and its tributaries. The pro- ject works in partnership with local authorities, charities, local businesses and community groups to achieve shared aims across the river catchment.
“ABBA will deliver physical restoration of the river to provide natural capital benefits and improvements hand-in-hand with large-scale community and business engagement whilst developing innovative solutions to the historic challenges the river faces.
“The project will deliver a programme of events each year, working with local communities and volunteers, to raise awareness of the issues facing the catchment.”
