SANTA is coming to town next month to start Westbury’s Christmas celebrations. The town council has organised a wide range of exciting attractions including a concert full of special performances, a Santa’s grotto, a winter market and the ever-popular Christmas lights switch – all taking place on Saturday 2nd December.
The hugely popular event is always well attended by Westbury residents who this year will be treated to a live performance by one of the leading Queen tribute bands in the UK – Flash!
Local acts The Sad Dad Club and Sour Apple will be supporting Flash while talented young artists from Matravers School will be performing throughout the afternoon.
The town council says, “The day will start in the Westbury High Street where there will be a winter market for people to pick up stocking fillers from an eclectic mix of traders selling their best wares. There will also be a funfair plus entertainment from circus stilt walkers, the Bratton Silver Band and local choirs.
“There will be a performance of the Dangerous Dave puppet show as seen on CBBC at 1.15pm in the Market Place followed by performances by the town’s dance groups until 3pm. By 3.30pm, Santa will have finished his work for the day and will be flying into his grotto to meet the children of Westbury – rumour has it he will be onstage between 5.30pm and 6pm for the lights switch on!
“Late lunch and early dinner are covered with Hickory Henry’s Smokehouse, Dogs on Wheels, Pizzas and Churros, Raymondos, The Cosy Kitchen, Sugar and Slice and the Espresso Lab all ready to fill the family up. You’ll also find Decanter Bar and Prosecco Palazzo bringing the bubbles and fizz to our yearly celebrations, plus all the pubs ready to welcome you in.
“Before all this takes place, remember, all businesses are welcomed by Westbury Town Council to take part in the Christmas window competition. Just email markets@westburytowncouncil.gov.uk for more info. Children looking to enter the Christmas card competition can do the same, although all entry forms have now been shared with schools.”
