A COUPLE from Watersmead Care Home in Westbury, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Shelagh and Tony Capon were married on July 14th 1956 in Birmingham, the city where they were both born and grew up.
Shelagh trained as a ballet dancer and after a brief spell travelling with a performing arts troupe, she went on to teach children and young people how to dance. Later, she retrained as a secretary.
Tony trained as a journalist and worked at the Birmingham Mail. He then went into the motor industry for Ford in Dagenham and then British Leyland in Oxford.
Along the way the couple had three children; Mike, Liz and Steve. Shelagh and Tony passed on their love of travelling to their children, spending many summers under canvas in France. They continued to camp well into their seventies.
They moved to Wareham, Dorset later in life – a wonderful spot which they enjoyed exploring with family, friends and their two black Labradors.
They were very active in the local community – starting the Wareham and Swanage U3A groups which still thrive to this day. They were also keen members of the Wareham catholic church.
More recently they have moved to Watersmead Residential Home in Westbury to be closer to Liz, their daughter. They are very comfortable there and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with family, carers and other residents.
