WESTBURY’S hopes of progressing in the cup competition came to a halt when the Lytchett Minster juggernaut rolled into town. The Dorset outfit has only lost one game this season and was full of confidence.
Westbury started the game well, and in the first five minutes were unlucky not to score a try from a five-metre scrum, but it was not to be.
Lytchett scored two well taken tries in the first half, although they were made to work hard by the never-say-die Westbury defence. At half-time, Lytchett was leading 14–0.
The second half kicked off, and for the first 20 minutes, Westbury certainly matched their opponents in commitment to the cause, but eventually Lytchett broke through to open the flood gates, where in the last quarter of the game, they ran in six unanswered tries. With their kicker only missing one conversion, the score soon mounted.
Westbury bravely fought against this onslaught, but with several forced changes through injury, it became inevitable that they would be outgunned.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, this was a great game of rugby where both sets of players gave their all. After the game, Lytchett Minster and their supporters stayed to watch the England v Ireland game in the clubhouse, which, with that result, turned the day into a brilliant social evening for all.
Next week, Westbury will look at league matters when they welcome Trowbridge 2nds to Knott Field.
