A LOCAL woman is inviting people to join her for an evening of Latin American dancing, to raise money for her old school in Colombia.
Arlyn Denton-Merino attended the school in the port city of Barranquilla, and then taught there for two years before moving to the UK.
She now wants to raise money to help enhance the education of pupils.
She explained, “The school, Centro Docente Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo is located in the south west part of the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. It is a poor area on the outskirts of the city, in which the youngsters have few or no opportunities whatsoever.
“The school focuses on the young and assists them in finding a way out of the trap of poverty and supports them in their education so that they may, in the future, contribute more to their families and society.
“Donations will go to the school to help with various activities within the community including a library, the formation of community leaders and recycling and environmental projects.”
Instructor Maria Gonzalez will lead the dance, and there will also be games, a raffle, contests, and much more.
Arlyn said, “Zumba is quite popular, so I thought it would be fun to have a laugh as well as asking for money.”
• The event will be held on Saturday 4th May from 7.00pm to 10.00pm at Dilton Marsh Memorial Hall, BA13 4DW. Tickets £5 in advance only. Bring your own drinks and nibbles to share.
