NETWORK Rail has confirmed they are looking into the costs to repair the road surface at Station Approach following concerns that the potholes are so deep they could cause an accident.
The road by the train station has a number of potholes that have not been filled in and a local resident, Jonathan Merrit, says that cars are being forced to drive on the opposite side of the road at certain locations due to how damaged the road surface is.
Jonathan said, “The situation down Station Approach has become so serious that I feel it is only a matter of time before an accident or incident occurs. There must be over 40 potholes, some are now so deep that they are dangerous to road users.
“I have seen cars having to change lanes to avoid the worst of it which can make the traffic flow quite awkward. The number of heavy lorries that use this road is only making the situation worse. There is even a traffic cone covering a pothole in the road as it is so deep.”
Network Rail is responsible for maintaining the road, and they say they are looking into costs to repair the road surface.
A Network Rail spokesperson said, “We are aware of the issues with potholes on the approach to Westbury station. Safety is our top priority and as such we’re currently working with our contractors to obtain a quote for the completion of the repair work.”
