A disused phone box at The Ham has been given a new lease of life with the installation of a defibrillator inside.
The defibrillator, located opposite the Premier shop, was funded by a grant from the defibrillator charity London Hearts.
Earlier this year, the town council was presented with the opportunity to take ownership and manage the phone box opposite Brook Lane. Westbury Town Council and Heywood Parish Council collaborated to share the installation costs.
Richard Culverhouse, the clerk to Heywood Parish Council, remarked, “The telephone box is virtually on the parish line, so we thought it would benefit both communities. Defibrillators definitely save lives.”
Deputy Mayor Cllr Mark Bailey added, “There isn’t a defibrillator in this area, and we know from others around the town how important they are. They absolutely do save lives. It’s great that we can collaborate with Heywood Parish Council to make this happen.”
Defibrillator locations in Westbury include the Laverton on Bratton Road, the library on Edward Street, Leigh Park Community Centre on Leigh Park Way, Tesco Express on Fore Street, One Stop on Queens Square and the Methodist Church on Station Road.
