RESIDENTS of Dilton Marsh have expressed their concern at proposed plans to build new houses on land adjacent to the High Street.
An outline application with all matters reserved, has been made for the erection of 10 dwellings and access. The news has sparked fears that the development will increase traffic in the area and impact local wildlife.
Resident of the High Street, Paul Molson said, “This area is already overwhelmed by traffic and this development will cause traffic to increase in the area, and will also increase pollution and impact the local wildlife.
“Residents on St Marys Lane and High Street will be directly affected by these new homes and I would like to encourage them to write in to Wiltshire Council and share their thoughts and opinions on the matter.
“There is far too much housing being built in the area, with no thought to the infrastructure for the area. I am lost for words that this application has been made. We are overcrowded, it’s got to stop! If we go down against this proposal, then we’ll go down fighting!”
In agreement, neighbour Diana Helden said, “This will cause further traffic congestion leading on to the High Street which at this present time is bad enough with the volume of traffic coming from outlying districts and using Dilton Marsh High Street as a bypass to reach the Bath Road! Surely it would be better to keep it as agricultural land as I believe there is already further proposals for more housing in and around Dilton Marsh causing more traffic congestion through the High Street.”
