DILTON Marsh Village Store has re-opened with a positive reaction from the local community. The shop is run by Matt Lawes and Ellie Whitehall and was opened on Friday 11th April by Jerry Wickham, Wiltshire Councillor for Ethandune.
Matt said, “We’ve had a really positive reaction from local people and it has been busy over the weekend. I think a local shop is an important part of the community, somewhere residents can walk to, buy local produce and receive personal service.
“The contract has been signed for the new post office and we hope it will be open on 19th May.”
The shop is selling local produce wherever possible including from Penleigh Farm which rears its own sheep and pigs in Dilton Marsh; fresh vegetables grown in Bromham; beers from Bath Ales; and goods from The Wiltshire Chilli Farm. Local people can also order in magazines and newspapers.
Cllr Jerry Wickham said, “Congratulations to Matt and Ellie who have taken over the Village Stores in Dilton Marsh, which I had the pleasure in formally opening last week.
“The former shop and post office closed last year and following a concerned local campaign, by residents, has been totally revamped and is now open again. With the post office part due to open next month, this means that Dilton Marsh once again has a facility in the heart of the community.
“I wish Matt and Ellie all the very best in their venture and sincerely hope that villagers are able to support them by regular purchases to ensure this remains a viable concern.”
