WESTBURY Heritage Society is asking local residents to contribute to their photograph collection of the former cement works’ chimney.
After learning that the 400ft chimney is to be knocked down later this year, the heritage society decided to start a collection of photographs to show the impact the huge structure has had on the local landscape for 50 years.
Society secretary Liz Argent said, “Love it or hate it, no one can deny that the cement works and its distinctive chimney has been a landmark in Westbury for over half a century. Like its close neighbour, the White Horse, it is visible from many parts of the town and for miles around.
“Westbury Heritage Society would like to ask the town’s residents to help us in creating a photographic archive of its existence.
“If you can see the works from your house or street or if you know of a particularly good view of it, please send us your photo.”
Photographs of the chimney should be emailed to info@westburyvisitorcentre.co.uk
