A WOMAN from Westbury, who has overcome Hodgkin lymphoma, is tackling 5 miles of mud and 13 obstacles in the ‘Tough Mudder’ challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust after they supported her during her diagnosis.
Chloe Todd, alongside friend Tom Attwell, are taking part in the ‘Tough Mudder’ challenge where they will tackle 5 miles of running through mud as well as 13 different obstacles, to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust on Saturday 18th August.
“Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK, and I was one of them,” Chloe told White Horse News. “In September 2016, just three days before my 23rd birthday, I was diagnosed with stage 2A Hodgkin lymphoma. I had three months of chemotherapy and was luckily given the all-clear in January 2017. When I had cancer, I wanted to continue my life as ‘normally’ as possible, and I’m sure others do too.
“The Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer unit at Bristol Hospital, which was opened and funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2014, helped me to do this.
“They organise special events and sessions, and even supply wigs, in hopes of making life with cancer that little bit easier. This is why I’m raising money.
“I want to help improve treatment for other young adults and the Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to providing expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’.”
Chloe and Tom are following a training routine which has been provided by the organisers.
“I may have missed a day.. or two! I’ve only ever ran 5ks before nothing involving obstacles,” Chloe continued. “I’m a bit nervous. I couldn’t even do one press up before starting the training and I still can’t do that many now! That’s why I asked Tom to do it with me. He’s there for support – physically and mentally. I think he’s actually looking forward to it.”
As Chloe is taking part with a charity place, she needs to raise £350. If you would like to donate you can visit her JustGiving page via: https://www.just giving.com/fundraising/ chloe-louise-todd. For more information about the challenge visit: https://tough mudder.co.uk/
