Westbury’s much-loved Edible Westbury project is set to expand, bringing more opportunities for residents to enjoy homegrown, sustainable produce.
The initiative will soon be extended to Becks Mill Play Area in Westbury Leigh, with new raised beds due to be planted later this year.
Once established, residents will be invited to harvest and enjoy fresh produce, just as they currently can from the edible garden outside the Westbury Library.
Updates will be shared as the new beds are planted, and residents will be notified when the crops are ready for harvest.
Westbury Town Council’s Clerk Deborah Urch explained, “This community-driven project aims to make healthy, sustainable food more accessible while boosting local biodiversity.
“Residents are encouraged to explore the edible gardens and experiment with the interesting plant varieties available, adding unique flavours to their home cooking.
“Many will already have noticed fruit trees growing in our parks, these are also part of the wider effort to support local, low-impact food sources.
“In previous years, the Climate Emergency Sub-Committee funded apple tree giveaways and it remains committed to supporting similar community-based sustainability projects.”
