THE Westbury and District Cricket Club has appointed a new chairman and re-introduced a third team ahead of the upcoming season.
The club’s new chairman is long-term member Matt Greatley and the new third team is an opportunity for emerging talent to get some game time.
A spokesperson for the club says, “The 2024 cricket season will begin in late April, and with the new season comes some exciting new developments for the club.
“The club is proud to announce the appointment of a new club chairman, Matt Greatley. Matt brings with him a passion for cricket, and a commitment to grow and improve the club. Matt has been involved with the club for several years, where he has displayed his skills on the field, including being a former first team captain, but he has also made significant contributions off the pitch. The club is excited to enter this new era with Matt at the helm.
“Additionally, we are delighted to announce that we have reintroduced a third team into the Wiltshire County Cricket League. The team has been entered into Division 10, which is the entry level into the league. The vision for the third team is to provide consistent games and exposure to Saturday league cricket for the adult players who are new to the sport and the ladies’ team.
“The third team will also serve as a space for emerging talent, with the experienced youth players being given the opportunity to transition from youth to senior levels. The third team provides them with a space to hone their skills and gain valuable match experience, guided by veterans of the sport who are looking for a less competitive league than the first and second teams.
“The reintroduction of a third cricket team is something that the club is really excited about, as it holds immense potential for player development, inclusivity, and nurturing emerging talent. Both developments will make for a thrilling season ahead and aids the growth of the cricket club.”
