A GROUP of children visited Westbury Fire Station last month, learning all about what a firefighter does, and having a ride in the fire engine.
Local childminder Rick Knight who organised the trips said, “I arranged two group visits last year which were successes so I decided to arrange two visits again. Firefighter, Martin Waker, very kindly talked us through what a firefighter does, what they wear and what equipment they use on the fire engine. The children were allowed to sit in the fire engine and pull the hose.
“The visit coincided with the fire at Grenfell Tower which the children may have seen on the news. The visit hopefully will educate the children on the role firefighters have in keeping us safe.
“Sadly, I will be resigning my childminding registration on 7th July and I will be moving away from Westbury in the near future too. I am grateful to the many people I have met in the short time I have lived in Westbury for their support, especially being a male attending toddler groups and being a childminder as well.”
