A NEW facebook page, set up by a high street businessman, is adding its voice to the call for free car parking in Westbury.
The page is raising awareness of the need and importance of free parking in the town, and campaigning for the reintroduction of one hour of free parking.
Ashley Humphries, of Barbershop by AJH, set up the page. He explained, “As you can imagine, having a business like a barber shop, you do get a general gist of what the community is feeling.
“Since the free parking has been taken away I’ve definitely noticed a decline in how busy the town is, especially on a Saturday.
“A thriving high street is a necessity for a small town. If you take that away, that brings a lot of negatives.
“Just an hour of free public parking can have such a positive effect on a small town like Westbury. The majority of people I have personally spoken to agree that members of the public will avoid making small trips into Westbury for goods/services if there is a charge to park, perhaps opting to go to a supermarket or another local town instead. Hopefully this page will raise awareness and with enough support we can change the opinions of Wiltshire Council officials.”
Ashley hopes that people in Westbury will ‘like’ his page and add their comments to help build the campaign’s momentum. He says, “Please recommend this page to family members, friends, and work colleagues… spread the word and share the page, our voice needs to be heard!”
