A WESTBURY mum recently held a family fun evening at The Railway to raise money for a sensory room for her son Rossi who has autism.
Carol May is trying to raise £10,000 for a sensory room to be built in her home so Rossi can play safely and not harm himself.
Carol said, “It was a fantastic evening, everyone had a great time. We had lucky dip, bingo and a bouncy castle for the kids so they enjoyed themselves.
“Rossi had fun as well, although sometimes it got a bit much for him and he had to go outside and play away from all the crowds.
“We raised £1,025 which brings our total to £2,400, so I really think we will reach our target and have the room built. It will make such a huge difference to Rossi’s life.
“Because he doesn’t speak he can get very frustrated when he can’t communicate, so he bangs himself against walls and bites himself. When he becomes agitated at school, they put him in the sensory room and it calms him down, so to have that at home would be great.”
The family has been approached by a local plasterer, electrician and carpenter who have offered their skills when needed.
