PLANNING permission for a new farm shop and microbrewery in Edington has been granted, with plans to get the facility running in the next year.
The Three Daggers Operating Co Ltd, the company which owns the village pub, The Paulet Arms, is behind the development and hopes the shop will bring more local, quality food to the village, with much of the available produce being used in the pub’s meals. The shop will have an emphasis on suppling local produce such as bread, meats, poultry, vegetables and cheese. The company is developing its own farm which will produce some of the goods, while beverages produced in the new microbrewery will also be sold in the shop. Edington Parish Council voiced their support for the development as the planning application was submitted, particularly because it will bring more facilities to the village and give people the opportunity to buy produce locally. Planning officers granted permission, gesturing to the “economic and community benefits of the development”.Project manager Dave Sheridan said, “It’s taken a while to agree all the details and the best way forward on how the shop is going to look and make sure everyone locally is happy. We’ve tried to involve the village and dealt with the parish council. We’re just tying up all our final details on everything and all being well, we should start in the next eight weeks.”In the meantime, the village pub is being re-branded as The Three Daggers, the name it has been known as informally for hundreds of years. It was originally opened in 1750 by Harry Paulet, Lord of Edington Manor. It was commonly referred to as “The Three Daggers” as few people could read but everybody could recognise and describe the Paulet family’s coat of arms.
