AN exhibition to commemorate those who served in the First World War from Westbury and the surrounding villages, was visited by hundreds over the Remembrance period.
The Westbury branch of the Wiltshire Family History Group researched those from Westbury and the surrounding area who served in the First World War.
They set up an exhibition in All Saints Church, to commemorate the centenary, which featured displays of the men and women who served in the war, with background information about their families. Visitors were able to find their own family stories and some even shared their own research with the family history group.
There were also poppy displays, made from donated poppies, and an archway of white poppies, to symbolise peace.
Lynne Vercoe of Westbury Family History Group said, “The exhibition was busy all week and we were delight by the reaction to it, with most people appreciating the work that had been undertaken.
“Visitors of all ages came, including a nursery school, Bitham Brook, Junior School and residents of Westbury Court Care Home. They also admired the displays of knitted and crochet poppies that had been done in a community project.
“The exhibition finished on Saturday, but the work will continued to create a Roll of Honour so if anyone has any information to add to this project, the Westbury Family History Group would love to hear from you.”
