A former Bratton Primary School student travelled back from his home in Australia last month to deliver a short film he discovered of students at the school from 1968.
Daniel McMahan decided to make a detour to Bratton Primary School on his planned trip back to the UK after finding the film while sorting through old memory box items in Australia.
The film shows various ex-Bratton students dressed as robbers and attempting to steal a sports day cup. Among those featured is Daniel’s mother, Fiona Brown, who was a pupil at the time.
The school plans to donate the film to the archives and obtain consent to share it with local historical groups in the village.
During his visit, Daniel was given a guided tour of the school and grounds to discuss what had changed since his attendance in the late 1980s. He said, “The school has really changed since I attended! I’ve had so many flashbacks while touring around the school. I can vividly remember playing on the playground oval and having sports day in the park!”
Louise Bunce, the school’s publicity officer, said, “We would love to be able to share this historical film of Bratton students with those former students who appear, so if you attended Bratton School in 1968, please get in touch with the school office.
“We imagine that some of the students from that time are still local and may even have grandchildren who attend the school now. It would be lovely to provide them with a visual trip down memory lane!
“A big thank you to Daniel and his mother Fiona for kindly donating this lovely slice of history to the school!”
