NEW sessions for young cricketers have got off to flying start with 60+ turning up in the first week.
The All Stars (age five to eight) and Dynamos (age eight to 11) sessions run by Westbury and District Cricket Club at Wellhead Lane.
One All Stars player, Luna, 6, said: “It’s really nice to be able to play again after so long in lockdown. I was a bit nervous but it was really fun.”
Club chair Neil Hawker said, “As volunteers running the Westbury & District Cricket Club, the committee is delighted our hard work through the covid-19 lockdowns is being rewarded with so many kids and adults signing up for the new season.
“The lifting of restrictions allows the club to safely let training and friendly games start. And the youth training for All Stars and Dynamos was able to start last week from 7 May here at the fabulous Leighton Sports Ground in Westbury. It is wonderful to see the ground being used again in a socially-distanced and respectful way.”
All Stars provides non-stop fun at sessions taking place on Fridays through May and June from 6pm to 6.45pm.
The activity and game based programme is suitable for all skill levels, providing children with the foundations to begin a lifelong love of physical activity and cricket, while making friends in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Every child who registers will receive a backpack full of goodies, including a cricket bat, ball and personalised t-shirt.
All children returning to All Stars will receive a kit bag, new stumps and ball and a personalised t-shirt.
The cost is £45 for an eight week programme and personalised participation pack for every player.
Dynamos Cricket provides boys and girls from eight to 11 years old with six sessions of non-stop fun, on Fridays through May and June from 6pm – 7pm.
Each week there will be a focus on a different cricket skill to build their confidence and ability, before they take part in a 60-ball countdown cricket match.
Dynamos Cricket will help grow children’s love of the game, and will give them the opportunity to socialise and make friends in a safe environment.
The cost is £40 to include a personalised New Balance playing shirt, Tops Cricket attar cards and exclusive access to the Dynamos Cricket App for every player
